Recurrent Dislocation Shoulder, Latarjet Procedure

Some youngsters (mostly between 20 and 40 years of age), more often men than women, have a problematic condition called “RECURRENT DISLOCATION OF THE SHOULDER”. Basically, the ball of the shoulder joint slips out of it’s socket . First time it is caused by significant injury, fall while playing in the playground or an accident when the arm and hand are in a throwing position. Initially it is so painful , that pain reduces only by relocating the ball in it’s socket. It becomes recurrent, if in the following weeks or months or years, repeated dislocation ( slipping of ball out of the socket ) happens with trivial injury or in sleep too. Such patients need an MRI and Surgical treatment like Arthroscopic Bankart Repair( Key hole surgery). But, sometimes the socket gets partly eroded by repeated dislocation, in which case, keyhole surgery cannot be performed, rather a open surgery called as LATARJET PROCEDURE, is required, which prevents further recurrent dislocations. Photo and video show the results after such a procedure in a young man- see the excellent function, and he is back to all activities, without fear of SHOULDER DISLOCATION.
