New Technique in Knee Arthroscopy for posterior horn tear of medial meniscus

Meniscus tear is a common sports injury affecting atheletes. But it can also affect youngsters and middle aged people , who are not actively engaged in sports. This can be due to falls or twisting injuries to the knee joint. It can be treated by Arthroscopic techniques. The photos and videos show a new Technique in Knee Arthroscopy for treating posterior horn tear of medial meniscus. By Percutaneous Release of MCL( Moran’s technique) like this tears of medial meniscus can be addressed effectively. 

Pott’s spine

Pott’s spine ( TB infection of backbone) is a common disease in our country. Long standing mild or moderate backache should not be taken lightly, as there is a high chance that it can be TB spine. X rays may come out to be normal in first few months of the disease process. MRI of SPINE can pick up TB Spine at a very early stage. Once diagnosed, it can be treated treated and cured fully by Anti Tubercular Treatment ( ATT) Medications. Otherwise, the disease may progress and cause damage to vertebrae( units of backbone) or pus formation and spinal cord compression leading to weakness of legs ( paralysis). Such situations require surgical treatment.

 TLIF is a Surgical procedure on Spine done after discectomy of L4/5 or L5/S1 levels done for slipped disc and Sciatica . The slipped disc is completely removed and replaced with a disc spacer which helps in fusion of that level. Patient is able to sit,stand and walk on 2nd day itself. The Intraoperative X rays and photo( under operating microscope) are self explanatory.

RECURRENT DISLOCATION OF THE SHOULDER

 “RECURRENT DISLOCATION OF THE SHOULDER”, is a common problem in youngsters. Basically, the ball of the shoulder joint slips out of it’s socket . First time it is caused by significant injury, fall while playing in the playground or an accident . It becomes “recurrent”, if repeated dislocation ( slipping of ball out of the socket ) happens with trivial injury or in sleep too. Such patients need an MRI and Surgical treatment like Arthroscopic Bankart Repair( Key hole surgery). But, sometimes the socket gets partly eroded by repeated dislocation, ( Bony Bankart lesion) in which case, keyhole surgery cannot be performed, rather a open surgery called as BRISTOW LATARJET PROCEDURE, is required, which prevents further recurrent dislocations. A young man had dislocated the shoulder repeatedly nearly 8-10 times. VIDEO shows the bony cup ( glenoid) , with significant bone loss-“ inverted pear shape” with loss of more than 25% of bony glenoid, seen in the Arthroscopic Video grab. Photos and X rays show the results after such a Latarjet procedure in a young man- see the excellent function, 10 months after surgery.Now he doesn’t have FEAR OF DISLOCATION.
