Tuberculosis infection can affect the bones especially the backbone without involvement of Chest ( Lungs). It is called as Pott’s Spine( TB infection of spine). All age groups are prone to this. It is fully curable, if diagnosed and treated promptly with the right management. A 29 year old young man was suffering from severe radiating pain in Rt leg with weakness in the foot, with Low back pain for 1 month was diagnosed to be TB Spine L4/5/S1 level( Posterior disease) by MRI and timely treatment was done by Decompression of Spine Surgery and by starting of Anti Tubercular Medications.Removing pus compressing the thecal sac and nerve roots and spinal cord ( see photos and video) gave him excellent relief. Moral of the story is that any back pain , not responding to medications and physiotherapy in 3-6 weeks, one should always suspect TB spine and get X rays and MRI done, to detect and treat this common problem at an early stage itself.
